About
Is artificial intelligence a friend or foe? Helper or hazard? Can ethics and morality be programmed? What does it mean to be human in the face of rapid technological evolution? Frankenstein Ai is an original work by 9th Hour Theatre Company adapted from the novel by Mary Shelley first published in 1818. The play explores what it means to be human and the value of the human experience, the relationship and tensions that arise between the created and the creator, and the ethics of developing artificial general intelligence (AGI). The play is a contemporary retelling of the original story in which Doctor Frankenstein’s “creature” is instead an AGI humanoid. World views clash and danger ensues in this fresh take on a celebrated classic.
