About

Following the release last year of Mama Terra’s Chameleons (Live Interpretations of Herbie Hancock), and their acclaimed 2023 debut studio album The Summoned (“Bursts with zeal and vigour,” ★★★★ MOJO), the Scottish group release the new studio album "Inner Space" on Acid Jazz Records. ‘Inner Space (Narration By Conrad Roberts)’ expands on the musical themes and ambition of Mama Terra’s debut album, on a track where fear, beauty and stillness coexist. The pace and overlapping of life are represented throughout by the tempo and constant introduction of new instruments; the soprano saxophone and violin float the melody, culminating with the voice of Conrad Roberts, on a spiritual sequel to his appearance on ‘Inamorata - Words & Narration by Conrad Roberts’, from Miles Davis’s 1971 Live Evil album, a spiritual connectivity that seems apt in the centenary of the trumpet legend’s birth. Mama Terra is the brainchild of Glaswegian pianist and composer Marco Cafolla, whom, along with co-bandleader and saxophonist Konrad Wiszniewski, upright bassist Ross Saunders, drummer Doug Hough, trombonist Mikey Owers, and vocalist Rachel Lightbody, create the remarkable sound that has seen the group acclaimed throughout the past three years, since their debut album. Nominated for 'Breakthrough Act 2025' at the Jazz FM Awards Mama Terra make music for the Eye of the Storm - where fear, beauty and stillness coexist
