About
The Waterfront Museum is open on most SATURDAYS 1-5pm and THURSDAYS 4-8pm for free tours for families and individuals when the barge is docked in Red Hook. We will be closed on Thursday, October 29th 2026 and Saturday, October 31st 2026 Red Hook was one of the earliest areas in Brooklyn to be settled. The Dutch established the village of Roode Hoek (Red Point) in 1636. The area is said to have been named for its red clay soil and “point” refers to its narrow upland peninsula surrounded by tidal marshes projecting into the harbor.
