Salamander Survey

Go beyond the trails and join Virginia Living Museum staff for a hands-on salamander survey! Discover the hidden world beneath the forest floor as you learn how VLM staff survey salamander populations and explore the important role these small amphibians play in our local ecosystems. The program will begin with a brief introduction to forest floor ecosystems and salamander survey methods. Then, alongside VLM Ectotherms staff and volunteers, participants will travel across the Museum campus to survey up to three monitoring sites, time permitting. Along the way, staff will help identify what we discover, answer questions and share more about the wildlife and habitats found beneath our feet.
