Simply…Autumn

Autumn in the Highlands is arguably the best time of the year for wildlife watching. Crisp mornings can give way to some surprisingly balmy days, when the sun reflects the view of the hills in the waters of the lochs and the colour of the birch trees along all the roads can be simply stunning. Our autumn migrant birds will have arrived by now and the Red Deer stags may well still be bellowing their competition across the glens, as they herd their harem lower down the slopes than in previous months. On the coasts numbers of returning wading birds will be building up, as they come back to us from their far north breeding grounds, together with Pink-footed Geese, Whooper Swans and Sea Ducks.
