Umphrey’s McGee once titled an album Local Band Does O.K. It’s a characteristically understated joke that says plenty about how seriously they’ve always taken the idea of not taking themselves too seriously. Nearly three decades later, the overachieving local band is still here and doing just fine. With distinctly Midwestern stubbornness, UM has built one of American rock’s great independent endurance stories: nearly 3,000 live shows, 15 studio albums, hundreds of millions of streams and a fiercely loyal community around the world.
