The 39 Steps

Presented by Black Swan State Theatre Company of WA Four actors take on over 130 characters in this madcap feat of dexterity, virtuosity and theatrical magic. Pulled into a web of intrigue and deceit, Richard Hannay must evade shadowy organisations, fumbling law enforcement, and femme fatales to save his motherland. Twisted into knots by skullduggery and suspicion, Hannay needs to solve the mystery of The 39 Steps – or else! This Tony and Olivier Award-winning, nine-year West End-running juggernaut farce, adapted by Patrick Barlow from the novel by John Buchan and the film by Alfred Hitchcock, is a satirical homage to Hitchcock’s masterpiece. It expertly blends nail-biting suspense with a dash of Monty Python hilarity. With riotous laughs, film noir romance, and a cheeky wink to the audience along the way, The 39 Steps promises to be a fast-paced comedy thriller that only a night at the theatre can deliver.
