Historie

During the later conversion, Mercier cleared the ruins but retained and modernised the surviving tower. With architect Francis Isoz, he built the neo-Gothic hotel from 1889 to 1893.

  1. c. 1170A tower was built on the lakeshore for the Bishop of Lausanne.
  2. 13th c.The tower became a fortified residence for bishops.
  3. c. 1283The tower was expanded with a curtain wall and service buildings.
  4. early 14th c.A great hall was documented in the palace and tower.
  5. 1536After Bernese forces conquered Vaud, the castle served as a prison.

  1. 1609A fire largely destroyed the central tower and fortifications.
  2. 1885The canton of Vaud sold part of the estate to Jean-Jacques Mercier.
  3. 1889–1893Mercier and architect Francis Isoz rebuilt the site as a neo-Gothic hotel, retaining and modernising the surviving tower.
