  • The Ancient Cyprus gallery contains about 300 artifacts focused on Cypriot art from 2200 to 30 BC.
  • The Gallery of the Bronze Age Aegean has over 100 objects dating from 3200 to 700 BC.

Historia

The location was chosen for its proximity to the University of Toronto, then outside the city limits. The museum and university retain close ties and share scientific facilities and resources. A 2005 restoration enlarged galleries, uncovered windows, and restored the rotunda and oak doors.

  1. 1912The Province of Ontario founded the museum.
  2. 1914The museum opened to the public, with the Duke of Connaught officiating.
  3. 1933A new east wing opened and became the main entrance.
  4. 1964–1998A planetarium opened south of the museum in 1964, closed in 1995 and temporarily reopened as a children’s museum in 1998.
  5. 1984Queen Elizabeth II inaugurated a major expansion.
