  1. 1687–1723Construction of Notre-Dame-des-Victoires Church at Place Royale began in 1687 and finished in 1723.
  2. Late 19th centuryLord Dufferin persuaded officials to preserve and rebuild Upper Town’s fortifications when demolition was proposed.
  3. 1963Quebec’s National Assembly established the old town as a protected historic district.
  4. 1964The district’s boundary was expanded and finalized, covering 135 hectares.
  5. 1985UNESCO designated the historic district a World Heritage Site.
