Discovery Design Time

This week’s Discovery Design Time celebrates the season with Scarecrow Sculpture, a Fall on the Farm-themed session exploring the surprisingly long history of the scarecrow. These garden protectors date all the way back to ancient Egypt, and while their look has changed over the centuries, their job has stayed the same — guests will discover that history while building their own. Guests will use the design and engineering process to construct a scarecrow from a toilet paper tube body, paper ribbon for straw-like arms and legs, and burlap for the head, then decorate their creation however they like. Guests will build new vocabulary like sculpture, design, structure, and agriculture, while exploring engineering concepts through a hands-on fall craft. Discovery Design Time is a weekly program held every Thursday at Discovery Center at Murfree Spring — each session features a new theme and activity, so guests can join again and again for a fresh hands-on art experience. 📅 Date: November 12, 2026 🎨 Theme: Fall on the Farm 📍 Discovery Center at Murfree Spring, Murfreesboro, TN
