Historia
The wall stands backed by part of Geneva’s old city walls. Its location reflects the importance of the city’s fortifications to the Reformation.
- 1902Pastor and university lecturer Auguste Chantre proposed the monument.
- 1908An international competition began to choose its design.
- 1909The monument was inaugurated, marking 400 years since John Calvin’s birth and 350 years since the University of Geneva’s founding.
- 2002Names added to the wall included Pierre Valdo, John Wyclif, Jan Hus and Marie Dentière.
