History

The idea came to the founders, Ewa Wigenheim-Westman and Ulf Westman, after they visited the Beatles Museum in Liverpool. They announced the project in 2006. It took them two years to convince the members of ABBA. The first plan was a museum in the former customs building Stora Tullhuset on Stadsgården. It was dropped after financial problems. The museum that opened in 2013 is in a former abandoned warehouse on Djurgården, designed by Johan Celsing Arkitektkontor. Three former members of the band, Anni-Frid Lyngstad, Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, attended the opening.
