About the work

Side friezes
Stone reliefs depict agriculture, industry and trade, sculpted by Antoni Vilanova. Other reliefs show science and the arts, sculpted by Torquat Tassó.
Heraldic decoration
Barcelona’s coat of arms appears above the other shields and is larger on each arch’s keystone. Stone voussoirs form a laurel wreath supporting the arms of the 49 Spanish provinces represented in 1888. Torquat Tassó and Antoni Vilanova created the decoration.
