History
Steve Wynn conceived Bellagio, and Jon Jerde designed it. Named after Bellagio on Lake Como in Lombardy, northern Italy, the resort’s Italian theme was influenced by Jerde’s visit there. The gallery opened with works from Wynn’s private collection and art owned by Mirage Resorts.
- 1993The Dunes hotel-casino was demolished on the site.
- 1995Construction began.
- 1998Bellagio opened on October 15 with 3,005 rooms in a 36-story tower. More than 80,000 visitors arrived during its first day.
- 2001Bellagio became the first hotel-casino to receive the AAA Five Diamond Award.
- 2004A second, 33-story tower opened, adding 928 rooms.
