History

Berghain grew out of the gay club Ostgut. Since Berghain opened in December 2004, its audience has become more diverse and international.

  1. 1953–1954The combined heat and power plant was built.
  2. 1998Ostgut, Berghain’s predecessor, opened in a former freight-station warehouse.
  3. 2003Ostgut closed in January.
  4. 15 October 2004Panorama Bar opened in the plant’s former control room.
  5. 18 December 2004The main club officially opened in the former machine hall.

  • Despite its name, Panorama Bar does not offer a view over Berlin.
  • Kantine am Berghain is a separate venue mainly used for concerts.

  • The garden hosts daytime DJ sets from late spring to early autumn.
  • Panorama Bar stays open until Sunday afternoon.

  • Teenagers are not admitted.

Know before you go

  • Photography is prohibited inside. Smartphone cameras must be covered with stickers. Guests are searched at the entrance, and devices may be confiscated.
  • Berghain has a selective door policy; admission is not guaranteed.
  • Lab.oratory is a male-only sex club. Its connecting passage is normally inaccessible except during Snax and Lab.dance.
  • Halle am Berghain is normally closed during club operation, though it sometimes hosts cultural events.
