History

The inn later became a favourite drinking place for local fishermen.

  1. 17th centuryThe building dates from this period.
  2. 1717A deed for a house on Street Y Black Boy is the earliest known archival reference to the inn.
  3. 1794A census recorded the street as “Black Boy” street.
  4. 1820sCaernarfon’s North Gate archway was added to help traffic enter and leave the old town.
  5. 1828The inn was known as the Black Boy before 1828. Later names included King's Arms and Fleur de Lys.

  1. 1990An excavation beside the inn found an old woman's skeleton. It was thought she was buried there to avoid funeral costs.
  2. 2008–2009The inn received Cask Marque awards for its cask ales.
  3. 2009Restoration uncovered a child's shoe, clay pipes and a coin beneath the dining room floor. The coin is thought to date from 1860.
  4. 2010The inn appeared in CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide.
