History
During renovations, the founders added patio tables and began serving drinks. Local people gathered there to play cards and dominoes. Workers brought their own lunches, prompting Balbina to start preparing hot food for them.
- 1942Joan Balsells i Torres and Balbina Garrido founded La Única, initially selling Catalan wines in bulk alongside liqueurs, ice, dry food, potatoes and sweet potatoes.
- 1942–1952Within its first decade, it became a food house serving traditional specialties and seasonal dishes.
- 1960sBalbina and Joan handed management to Genoveva Herrero and José María Vazquez. Vazquez had worked there since age 13.
- 1999Colleagues registered their football team as a Barça supporters’ club.
