History
After its destruction in 1521, the castle was rebuilt with platforms for cannon. Vauban later strengthened it against artillery.
- 988An earlier fortification at La Ramonette was mentioned in writing.
- 1050–1067A castle was built on the present site.
- 1096Godfrey of Bouillon pledged the castle to Bishop Otbert of Liège to finance his participation in the First Crusade.
- 1521The castle was destroyed and later rebuilt under Joris van Oostenrijk, with platforms for cannon.
- Late 17th c.Vauban adapted the fortress to withstand artillery.
