- 1787The Cheval Blanc inn occupied the site and later became one of the first café-concert venues.
- 1901–1902Édouard Fournier built the current building.
- 1903It opened as Gandon-Fournier, managed by Gandon, with Art Nouveau decor by Louis Trézel, Armand Ségaud and Hippolyte Boulenger.
- 1924Julien Barbarin inherited the establishment.
- 1938The restaurant adopted the name Julien, also known as Chez Julien.
