History
Riquet & Co. began as a colonial goods wholesaler, trading in tea, wine, coffee, oil, spices, wool and other goods. The firm began producing cocoa in 1890, later moving production to Gautzsch, and also made chocolate, pralines and wafers. The building’s position near the market square brought passing shoppers to Döring’s business.
- 1542The corner building was joined to the first house in the adjoining lane.
- Around 1807Householder Johann Gottlob Stephan Döring ran a trading business here.
- 1881The building was numbered Schuhmachergässchen 1.
- 1908–09Commissioned by Riquet & Co. in 1908 and designed by Paul Lange, the building was constructed in 1908–09.
- 1909The rebuild connected the building with Schuhmachergässchen 3.
