History

It relocated and expanded in 2016, then took its current name in 2018.

  1. 1886The Calgary and District Agricultural Society held its first fair, beginning the exhibition tradition.
  2. 1912Guy Weadick organized the first Stampede rodeo and festival, funded by four local ranchers and businessmen.
  3. 1923The Stampede merged with the Calgary Industrial Exhibition and became an annual event. Chuckwagon racing debuted.
  4. 1968The event expanded to ten days.
  5. 1974Elbow River Camp moved to its present location after flooding at its original site.
