What you see
- Railway and hydroelectric infrastructure from the 19th and 20th centuries accompanies the gorge landscape.
History
Nearby villagers once used the route daily, including children travelling to school and workers going to their jobs. The original concrete path rested on steel rails fixed into the rock face. Weather and falling rocks later damaged the slabs, leaving cracks, holes and exposed supports.
- 1901–1905The Sociedad Hidroeléctrica del Chorro built the path to connect workers at the Chorro Falls and Gaitanejo Falls hydroelectric plants and carry supplies. Rafael Benjumea y Burín designed the water and hydroelectric project behind it.
- 1921King Alfonso XIII crossed the path during the inauguration of the Conde del Guadalhorce reservoir. His visit gave it the name Camino del Rey, locally shortened to el caminito.
- 2001Authorities closed the path after fatal accidents in 1999 and 2000.
- 2014–March 2015Restoration began in 2014, adding a new walkway above the old one. The rebuilt route reopened to the public in March 2015.

- BusA shuttle bus links the southern El Chorro area near the station with the northern area at the Guadalhorce reservoir.
