History
The estate was formerly the home of the Cheek family. Leslie Cheek bought 100 acres of woodland in West Nashville for a country estate, and New York landscape architect Bryant Fleming designed the house and gardens.
- 1880sChristopher Cheek starts a wholesale grocery business in Nashville.
- 1932The limestone mansion and formal gardens are completed.
- 1950sHuldah Sharp and her husband offer the property for a botanical garden and art museum.
- 1959The art collection is founded on holdings of the former Nashville Museum of Art.
