Know before you go
- Timed-entry tickets are valid for the selected date and entry time; visitors can stay for the rest of that day. Tickets can be bought up to 30 days ahead.
- EdgeWalk is available as a bookable experience. It closes during winter, electrical storms and high winds.
- The emergency staircase has 2,579 steps to The Top; ordinary visits do not include stair access. Exceptions are made for charity climbs.

History
Foundation Company of Canada built the tower, with Canron handling steel and antenna fabrication. It occupies the former Railway Lands on land reclaimed from Lake Ontario. The site’s history includes its role as a meeting place for many Nations, including the Mississaugas of the Credit and Wendat peoples.
- 1968Canadian National began planning the tower as a television and radio communications platform for the Toronto area.
- 1972The project became official.
- 1973Construction began with excavation for the foundation.
- 1975The tower became the world’s tallest free-standing structure while still under construction. It was topped off on April 2, and helicopter Olga lifted the antenna into place in 36 sections.
- 1976The tower opened on June 26. Construction cost about CA$63 million.
