History
After visiting Griffith Park with his daughters, Walt Disney envisioned a place where adults and children could have fun together. He selected a design team from internal and outside talent.
- 1953Disney bought a 160-acre site near Anaheim for the park.
- 1954Construction began; the project cost $17 million.
- 1955Walt Disney directly supervised the park’s design and construction. It opened to the public on July 17, 1955, with 20 attractions.
- 1955The park was dedicated at a televised press event a day before its public opening.
- 1966New Orleans Square was added.
