Toca do Coelho became known for stuffed squid, cuttlefish with ink and a special Xerém.
- 1952José Coelho Júnior and his wife, D. Esperança Coelho, opened Toca do Coelho restaurant in Quarteira.
- 1965Hotel Toca do Coelho opened in summer with 32 bedrooms.
- 1967Management passed to José Coelho Júnior’s sons-in-law, João Manuel Soares and José Vitória Neto.
- UndatedThe hotel was renamed Dom José to promote it in international tourist markets and honor the family patriarch.
