History
Berlin sponsored the bear gorge after brown bears were introduced. Helmut Kohl opened the mountain wildlife park, and six Canadian timber wolves joined the enclosure beside the renaturalised gorge. The park later closed after the 2012 season. Following an early end to the 2013 season and a change of owner, it reopened in April 2014.
- 1964Eifelpark opened as Hochwildpark Eifel, Germany’s first open-air wildlife enclosure.
- 2012Both the amusement and wildlife parks closed after the season. The operator filed for bankruptcy.
- 2013The season ended early because of possible asbestos contamination at the former summer toboggan run. A new owner took over on 16 October.
- 5 April 2014Eifelpark reopened, welcoming 10,000 visitors.
- 2014The park’s mascots were renamed Purzel and Tatze.
