History

Building the mall changed the surrounding streets: Paulstraße lost its original form, and Hermannstraße was divided and ceased to be continuous for traffic.

  1. 1846Hotel de l'Europe opened on the site; the later Europahaus took its name from the hotel.
  2. 1909–1913George Radel built the Europahaus on Ballindamm.
  3. 2003Construction began, demolishing listed buildings including the Europahaus and Martin Haller’s corner building at Paulstraße and Hermannstraße.
  4. 2006Europa Passage opened on 5 October.

How to get there

  • TrainA pedestrian tunnel connects Europa Passage directly to Jungfernstieg S- and U-Bahn station, with entry to the lowest retail level.
  • TrainAt the Mönckebergstraße side, an entrance leads to Rathaus U-Bahn station.
  • On footMönckebergstraße is one level above the Ballindamm side because the ground slopes.
  • On footPedestrians cross the shopping centre at a right angle.
