History
Opposition to plans to leave Fenway in the late 1990s helped keep the Red Sox at the park, which the club subsequently renovated.
- 1911John I. Taylor bought the site and developed the ballpark. Architect James E. McLaughlin designed it, and the Charles Logue Building Company was the general contractor.
- 1912After an April 9 exhibition against Harvard, Fenway hosted its first official game on April 20. Boston beat the New York Highlanders, now the Yankees, 7–6 in 11 innings.
- 1914–1915The Boston Braves played their 1914 World Series home games and the 1915 season at Fenway while Braves Field was being completed.
- 1926A fire destroyed the left-field bleachers, which remained burned out until 1933.
- 1934A substantial rebuilding covered the wooden left-field wall with tin and concrete. It also flattened Duffy’s Cliff, the incline named after outfielder Duffy Lewis.
