History
The proposed site lay within the Reserva Natural do Estuário do Tejo. The Agência Portuguesa do Ambiente concluded its environmental assessment within 55 days, finding no environmental impact. Portuguese architects Eduardo Capinha Lopes and João Banazol designed the outlet.
- 1999The project was proposed as a leisure and shopping complex on the site of a former Firestone tyre factory.
- 14 March 2002Construction was authorized after the protected zone’s boundaries were revised.
- 2004The outlet opened on 9 September. Its opening celebration featured GNR and Tom Jones.
- November 2007It had operated without a use permit until this month.
- 2009A secretly recorded DVD surfaced in which an adviser admitted to paying bribes.
