History
- 1927Gallaghers opened as a speakeasy on 52nd Street, founded by former Ziegfeld girl Helen Gallagher and gambler Jack Solomon. It drew gamblers, sports figures and Broadway stars.
- After ProhibitionGallagher and Solomon turned the speakeasy into Broadway’s first steakhouse.
- 1942The restaurant closed on Tuesdays in response to wartime Meatless Tuesdays.
- After Helen Gallagher’s deathJack Solomon married Irene Hayes, who became a co-owner.
- After Jack Solomon’s deathIrene Hayes became the sole owner.

- 1973Jerome Brody hired Dick Conlon as the restaurant’s general manager.
- 2006Marlene Brody commissioned cartoonist Peb to create the Canvas of Stars mural. It took a year to complete.
- 2013Dean Poll bought the restaurant to preserve its character and restore it.
- March 2014The restaurant reopened under Dean Poll as an updated restaurant.
