History
Innocenz Weiss began serving beer alongside wine at his Schneidergasse tavern. After a local newspaper claimed beer not drunk at a brewery was poison, he jokingly renamed the restaurant «Gifthüttli».
- 1913Paul Weiss-Lipp commissioned architect Rudolf Sandreuter to build the present restaurant in an old Swiss style across Schneidergasse. The original building was sold to the state for 48,000 francs for the street realignment.
- 1918–1928After Paul Weiss-Lipp died, his wife Frieda continued the restaurant and sold it to the Warteck brewery in 1928.
- 1928Warteck has managed the building and leased the restaurant since 1928.
- 1990–2010The Braun family ran the restaurant.
