Questions and answers

Why is Glasgow Cathedral called a cathedral if it is a parish church?

It was the seat of Glasgow’s bishops and later archbishops. It ceased to be a bishop’s seat in 1690; its cathedral title is now honorary, and the Church of Scotland has no bishops.

Are Saint Mungo and Saint Kentigern the same person?

Yes. Kentigern is another name for Saint Mungo, to whom the church is dedicated.

Who cares for Glasgow Cathedral?

Historic Environment Scotland cares for the cathedral.
