History

The present church stands on the site of a Carolingian church. In the Middle Ages, it served as a monastery church and rivalled the Fraumünster. Its plain interior reflects reforms begun by Zwingli and continued by Heinrich Bullinger. The former cloister dates from the late 12th century. It contains a Reformation museum and gives Conrad Gessner his final resting place. Parts of the medieval cloister were incorporated into the school building; the cloister was renewed in 2009.
