History

The grounds once held Heidenhof Wildlife Park, named for Heidenhof Chapel. The agreement required preserving the chapel and keeping native animals. The park later added Colossos, themed areas and fully covered rides. Its themed lands include Bucht der Piraten, Transilvanien, Land der Vergessenen and Exploria.

  1. 1350Heidenhof Chapel was built.
  2. 1972A storm closed Heidenhof Wildlife Park.
  3. 1978Hans-Jürgen Tiemann opened Heide Park with six rides, under an agreement to preserve the chapel and keep native animals.
  4. 1979–2008Dolphin shows began in 1979, gained a domed roof in 1980 and ended after the 2008 season.
  5. 1988–2009Heide-Dorf, a replica of buildings typical of the Lüneburg Heath, opened and later closed.

  2. 2002Tussauds Group bought the park.
  3. 2007Merlin Entertainments acquired a majority stake in Tussauds Group.
  4. 2007–2015Port Royal opened in 2007 and became Heide Park Adventure Hotel in 2015.
  5. 2011The park began reorganising into themed areas.
  6. 2016Drachenzähmen – Die Insel opened.
