History
Part of the hunting ground was fenced and stocked with 100 fallow and red deer. Karl Theodor later opened the park to Munich residents. After the 1918 revolution, the park passed to the Bavarian state, which transferred it to the Wittelsbacher compensation fund in 1923. The 100 deer belong to the hunting ground’s history, not the present enclosure.
- 1720A pheasantry was established here.
- 1767Hops began to be grown here for the electoral breweries.
- 1780Elector Karl Theodor commissioned Johann Theodor Freiherr von Waldkirch to create a hunting ground.
- 1786A silkworm venture replaced hop cultivation, with 17,000 mulberry trees planted; the venture ultimately failed.
- 1791A hunting lodge that became the park’s first restaurant was built.
