History

Francesco Melzi d’Eril was Duke of Lodi and vice-president of the Cisalpine Italian Republic founded by Napoléon Bonaparte. Stendhal's several stays at the villa inspired his writing. The estate was later sold to the Gallarati Scotti family.

1808–1810Giocondo Albertolli built the neoclassical villa as a summer residence for Francesco Melzi d’Eril.
1837Franz Liszt stayed at the villa for several months with Marie d’Agoult around the birth of their daughter Cosima.
