History

The founders said language difficulties and cold winter shifts made their first business experience difficult. Introducing several different hot dogs drew attention to the business. Its third stand and first flagship store opened in May. The original stand was at Burrard and Smithe, while the current shop is at 530 Robson St.

  1. January 2005Noriki and Miki moved from Japan to Canada and opened Japadog as a hot dog stand at Burrard and Smithe streets.
  2. 2007By its third year, the business had several employees.
  3. 2010During the Vancouver Winter Olympics, two stands drew daily lines of nearly 100 people.
  4. 2011Japadog opened its first U.S. location.
  5. February 2020Restrictions forced Japadog to close many locations.
