History

Engineers Juan Alfredo Amigó and José Luis Olcina designed the project. Seed gathering, expeditions and partnerships with botanical institutions worldwide helped build its plant collection.

  2. 1995The garden project began with funding from the European Union and the city.
  3. 1996–1999Construction began in 1996. Carlos Simón oversaw the lakes, waterfalls and first plantings; Manuel Caballero Ruano and Carlo Morici led the botanical work.
  4. 2000–2006Work stalled for lack of funding, and the site received minimal maintenance.
  5. 2007–2008Work resumed, bringing new irrigation, landscaping on the southern slopes and new geographic sections.
