History
The city council invited the Jesuits to establish a college, which opened in Ritter Palace. The school later became a cantonal school and moved to Alpenquai in 1966, ending the church’s role as a school church.

- 1666Construction began; the foundation stone was laid on 3 December.
- 1669The church shell was standing and roofed.
- 1672The windows and façade were completed.
- 1677Papal nuncio Edoardo Cibo consecrated the church on 29 August, while interior work remained unfinished.
