History

  1. 1886The first jet rose 30 metres beside the Coulouvrenière plant, where a safety valve released excess water to control pressure when artisans stopped their machines.
  2. 1891Following public enthusiasm, the city moved the fountain into the lake basin as a permanent tourist landmark and increased its water pressure. Its central jet stood with four smaller jets arranged in a fan; the smaller jets were later removed.
  3. 1891Projectors on a raft in the harbour illuminated the fountain.
  4. 1906Two pump sets were installed to supply water to the fountain throughout the week.
  5. 1947–1948Plans for the present fountain were drawn up in 1947 and approved in 1948.
