History
Jimmy Doherty studied zoology and entomology and worked at Mole Hall Wildlife Park as a teenager. He started a rare-breed piggery on the outskirts of Ipswich, initially focusing on the Essex pig, whose bloodline was then considered extinct. The site began as an old dairy farm. A BBC documentary called ‘Jimmy’s Farm’ followed the founders’ farming work.
- 2002Jimmy Doherty and Michaela first saw the farm as a derelict site.
- 2003The Essex Pig Company began with an onsite butchery and farm shop.
