History
The park opened in 1924.
- 1916Gottlieb Friederich Rothpletz designed Josefwiese on the industrial quarter’s last undeveloped open space.
- 1921The land was used to grow vegetables until 1921.
- 1924Josefwiese opened.
- 2022–2023Elevated dioxin levels were detected and attributed to the adjacent Josefstrasse waste incinerator; in 2023 the city decided to remediate around 6,000 m².

- On footJosefwiese is bounded by Josefstrasse to the northeast, the Aussersihler Viadukt to the northwest, Ottostrasse to the southeast and Neugasse to the southwest.
