History
In 2003, it became independent.
- Napoleonic WarsKarl Friedrich Emil zu Dohna-Schlobitten built the fortification that now houses part of the museum.
- 1969The decision was made to establish an amber museum, and a building with a gate was assigned to it.
- 1972Construction of the museum began.
- 1979The museum opened its first section on 29 December as a branch of a regional history and art museum.
- 2003The museum became independent.
