History
The northeast corner once had swings and a bowling alley, among Bavaria’s earliest playgrounds. Adults also played croquet and lawn tennis in the garden. From the turn of the century, Eugen Drollinger redesigned the garden for the royal spa town.
- 1868Bavarian court gardener Carl von Effner laid out the garden as a landscape garden.
- 1878Concerts moved to the park, and a covered promenade and music pavilion were built.
- April 1917Prisoners of war began planting vegetables in the flower beds.
- 1928The Kurmittelhaus opened at the park’s southern end, opposite Hotel Axelmannstein.
- 22 June 1945The first postwar concert in the park featured musicians from many nations.
