History

  1. 1962Hamburg’s culture authority founded Kunsthaus Hamburg.
  2. 1963It opened with an exhibition of Hamburg painting from 1912 onward. Its original building was linked to Kunstverein in Hamburg by a glass passage.
  3. 1993After its previous complex was demolished for a new art gallery, Kunsthaus Hamburg moved with Kunstverein in Hamburg to former market halls at Klosterwall 15.
  4. 2002It became a nonprofit limited liability company with independent management.
  5. 2023Anna Nowak took over leadership after Katja Schroeder’s nine-year tenure.
