History

The park opened in 1923 for the Gothenburg Exhibition, which marked the city's 300-year anniversary. It was meant as a temporary attraction, but it drew over 800,000 visitors in about a month and stayed open. Herman Lindholm, its first director, ran the park from 1923 to 1942. An investigation blamed the fire on faulty fitting of the water diversion pipes. Clearing work on the site was still going on after that decision. The water park was planned to cover 13,600 square metres with 14 attractions for up to 1,750 visitors.

  1. 1740The site was a tobacco plantation.
  2. 1750sA merchant named the area after his wife Lisa.
  3. 1908The city of Gothenburg bought the area and its buildings.
  4. 1923The park opened for the Gothenburg Exhibition and stayed open after drawing over 800,000 visitors in about a month.
  5. 1940The Rotunda dance hall opened; in 1956 it was renamed Rondo.
