History
Züblin AG built the hall using plans and calculations by Hubert Rüsch of Dyckerhoff & Widmann AG. A twelve-storey residential tower was built beside it during the 2009–2011 redevelopment.
- 1929Engineer Adolf Goenner and architect Hans Ryhiner designed the hall. Ryhiner oversaw its completion after Goenner died in 1929.
- 2004The hall closed as a wholesale market after distribution routes changed.
- 2006Basel Zoo proposed turning the hall into a polar-animal exhibit.
- 2009–2011Allreal AG renovated and converted the hall, adding shops and restaurants across two floors.
- October 2013Market stalls and food businesses returned, restoring the hall as a marketplace and meeting place. Markthallen AG Basel has operated it since 2013.
