History

Marion began collecting 19th- and 20th-century art. After arriving in San Antonio in 1918, she married Donald T.

1918Marion Koogler McNay’s first husband, Don McNay Denton, died during a flu epidemic.
1926Marion married eye doctor Donald T. Atkinson.
1936Marion and Donald’s marriage ended, and she resumed her first husband’s surname.
1950When Marion died, she left more than 700 works of art.
1954The museum opened to the public.
